Traverse City Bats Go Silent in 1-0 Loss
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Duluth Sea Gulls and the Traverse City Bears. Duluth won it, 1-0. Duluth starter Warren Townsend was in command. Townsend, now 2-1, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing no runs. The triumph puts Duluth at 71-62 for the season.
Javier Castillo drove in one run for Duluth. The nine-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With no one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Larry Walker. It was his 56th RBI of the season.
Afterward, Sea Gulls manager G Maloney was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
