Toronto Wins, 4-3
|
The Toronto Maples turned back the Thunder Bay Caribou, 4-3, at Caribou Field. Brett Collins, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 2-2 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Steffen Brooks, who threw 104 pitches over 5 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits. Toronto, now 61-63, holds down third place in the North of the Border.
Collins contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Toronto in the top of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Collins took a sinker from Yakumo Hasegawa and stroked the double to left-center. His 17th double of the season allowed the Maples to leap in front, 2-1.
"Some wins are easy and some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," Collins told the Toronto Daily News.
