Thunderbirds Drop Sea Gulls, 6-2
|
The Detroit Thunderbirds defeated the Duluth Sea Gulls, 6-2, in USA action at Sea Gulls Field. Rafael Morales pulled his weight. The 9-year veteran was 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Ralph Baxter was the winner. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. Detroit's record now stands at 50-66, placing them last in the South of the Border.
Morales contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Detroit in the top of the third. With his team trailing 2-1, Morales took a changeup from Francisco Pérez and stroked the home run to left. His 16th home run of the season allowed the Thunderbirds to leap in front, 3-2.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Morales told the Detroit News.
