Detroit right fielder Stan Gillis had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Gillis went 3-4 with 3 singles, even as Traverse City beat the Thunderbirds, 9-6. Luis Torres earned save number 2 this season. The Thunderbirds, now 17-32, have lost 5 in a row.

Traverse City used the bat of Michael Jackson to get the win. The shortstop hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Bears ahead, 7-4. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"We maximized our offense today," said Traverse City skipper Jim Burns. "That makes everyone's life easier."
