Turley Lifts Waveriders to 6-3 Win
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Windsor Vigilantes and Owen Sound Waveriders get after it.
The Owen Sound Waveriders beat the Windsor Vigilantes, 6-3, at Waveriders Ballpark. The Waveriders got a fine performance from shortstop Benjamin Turley, who was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Walt Connel, the winner, improved to 2-1. He held the Vigilantes to 2 runs on 6 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 3.
In the bottom of the second, Walt Connel delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases loaded, the Owen Sound starting pitcher hit a 2-run single, putting the Waveriders in front, 6-3.
In comments to the Owen Sound Herald, Connel admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
The win lifted the Owen Sound record to 17-17.
